Heart Disease and Diet: Some Facts

Healthy Heart Diet

Adopting a healthy-heart diet involves making changes to your daily eating habits and taking regular exercise. Neither of these healthy heart recommended changes is easy unless we know the dangers of heart disease. So to help you reduce the fat and sodium in your diet, and take regular physical exercise, here are some frightening heart facts.

Reasons to Adopt a Healthy Heart Diet

  • Up to 1 million Americans will die of CVD in 2004.
  • At least 58 million Americans have some form of heart disease.
  • About every 29 seconds an American will suffer a coronary event.
  • At least 250,000 people die of heart attacks each year before they reach a hospital.
  • In 57 percent of men and 64 percent of women who died suddenly from CVD, there were no previous symptoms of heart disease.

Advice on Diets

Special diets or diet plans with special diet foods are sometimes needed for particular health conditions. Ask your doctor, dietitian or nutritionist about your personal dietary needs. Otherwise, a balanced diet program containing foods from all the nutritional food groups is best.
