Organic Chemical-Free Diets

An organic diet includes organic fruits and vegetables, free range meat or poultry, as well as organic dairy products, unrefined organic oils and stone-ground wheat. Organic diets are a way of mitigating the increased use of pesticides, herbicides, growth-hormones and other chemicals in the food chain. In addition, Mad Cow Disease and other food-related diseases as well as food sensitivities are increasingly common and might be considerably reduced by the consumption of an organic diet.

Organic Diets Not Necessarily Balanced Diets

That said, an organic diet is not by definition a healthy diet unless it is balanced. Therefore food pyramid guidelines and normal dietary and nutritional guidelines still apply.

Organic Diet More Nutrient Dense

Despite this reservation, most dietitians agree that organic food is more nutrient-dense and less toxic than regular food. So from a health viewpoint, balanced organic diets are better than non-organic eating plans.

Advice on Diets

Special diets or diet plans with special diet foods are sometimes needed for particular health conditions. Ask your doctor, dietitian or nutritionist about your personal dietary needs. Otherwise, a balanced diet program containing foods from all the nutritional food groups is best.
