Vegetarian Diet Advice for Ovo Lacto Vegetarians

Vegetarian Diet

Ovo-Lacto Vegetarians

Ovo-lacto-vegetarianism is the most popular form of vegetarianism. These vegetarians do not eat meat or flesh of any kind, but do eat eggs and dairy products. Sometimes ovo-lacto vegetarians eat meat by-products (e.g. fats, bonemeal, gelatin) and use animal-derived products (leather etc.).

Lacto Vegetarians

Ovo vegetarians eat eggs but not dairy products, while Lacto vegetarians eat dairy products but not eggs. The lacto-ovo-vegetarian eating pattern is based on grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, seeds, nuts, dairy products, and eggs, and excludes meat, fish, and fowl.

These diets can be followed by meat-eaters as a health diet or form of weight loss diet plan to help reduce their consumption of animal fats.

Advice on Diets

Special diets or diet plans with special diet foods are sometimes needed for particular health conditions. Ask your doctor, dietitian or nutritionist about your personal dietary needs. Otherwise, a balanced diet program containing foods from all the nutritional food groups is best.
