Guide to Crunches Exercises

Guide to Crunches Exercises

What Are Crunches?

"Crunches" is used mainly to describe a range of abdominal exercises. Ab crunches are like abdominal sit-ups. Abdominal muscles, more commonly known as "Abs", are a group of four muscles that shape the torso. Crunches should be performed on all the ab muscles - the upper abs, lower abs, and the obliques or side muscles.

How to Do Crunches

Crunches are performed lying flat on the floor and raising your head upwards and bringing it forward or to either side in a 'crunch-like' movement.

What Goes Wrong with Ab Muscles?

The abdominal muscles are stretched, especially the lower abs, during pregnancy. The ab muscles lose more strength and elasticity with each pregnancy. The drop in estrogen during menopause can also cause the stomach to protrude. Bad posture and sitting at a desk all day is also a factor.

Develop All the Abs

It is important to work all the abs, upper and lower, to get the best results. The good news is that the abdominal muscles respond quickly to exercise and you should see results in less than 4 weeks.
