Guide to Curls
What are Curls?
There is a range of exercises called 'Curls' or 'Curl Ups'. Similiar to crunches, "curls" typically refers to a type of abdominal exercises to strengthen the abs.
The ab muscles are a group of four muscles that shape the torso. They include: (1) the rectus abdominus, a muscle that runs vertically from the rib-cage to the pubic bone; (2) the transverse abdominus, an ab muscle which runs horizontally across the torso; (3) the external oblique, a muscle that runs diagonally from the hips to the rib; (4) the internal oblique, a muscle running along the front and side of the torso.
How to Do Curls
Curls are performed lying flat on the floor with your knees bent or your legs raised. You then raise your head towards your knees or to the side of your raised legs, depending on which ab muscle you want to use.
