Diet Description:
Optifast dietary treatment uses meal replacement formulas in combination with a lifestyle education program that helps people lose weight and develop the skills needed to successfully manage their weight in the future. Optifast is designed for people who are 50 pounds or more overweight, or have a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30. Counseling, lifestyle change and exercise are central to the program.

Optifast Weight Loss Diet Program

The program runs 20 weeks. The first 12 weeks, patients drink specially-formulated liquid drinks and eat specially formulated food bars. Over the next eight weeks, a dietician reintroduces patients to food. The goal of the program is to get patients back to eating a balanced diet of 1200 calories a day. When the 20 weeks are over, if patients want, they can buy two meals a day of the Optifast foods. There are also weekly support groups patients can attend to help them keep the weight off. Selected clinics offer Bariatric Surgery Support programs and Adolescent Weight Loss Education.
